Why Scouts Vs. Y Scouts – Why The “Y”

When we sat down to come up with a company name, the letter “Y” embodied what we wanted to stand for as a company.

Here are some of the things we jotted down about the letter “Y.”

  • Y is the fork in the road we all face with career decisions.
  • Y is the 3 way intersection between job seekers, companies, and us, the company that brings these parties together.
  • Y is Gen Y, one of our main focus points.
  • Y is symmetrical, which symbolizes the equal importance we place on candidates and clients.
  • Y is our company mantra and our inside out recruitment philosophy that starts with the question, “What’s Your Why?”
  • Y is the connection of the soft skills + hard skills to yield the best overall candidate fit.

  • We had a few more reasons on the list, but you get the gist.

Now that we had agreed on the letter “Y” (and that we couldn’t just call ourselves “Y”), we wanted to choose a complimentary word. We wanted a word that described our business while avoiding being like “just another staffing agency.” So we copied the “About Us” pages of 10 of our competitors and pasted a Word document into a nifty little tool that showed the most common words our industry uses.

    Here’s what we got back:

Since the term “scouts” didn’t appear anywhere, but had a definition of a “person who is searching and investigating,” we’d found our complementary term.

And that’s how Y Scouts got it’s name. Now it’s your turn. What’s Your Why?
